Programme Specifics

Main subject

The main subject is conservation and the studies leads to a Degree of Master in Science with a Major in Conservation. Through elective courses you are able to specialize in a speficic subject area such as build environment or cultural heritage conservation.

Courses that can be applied to the degree

By combining courses offered by the Department of Conservation and elsewhere, students may design their own Master’s degrees.

The Master's Programme in Conservation begins with three compulsory courses offered during the first semester of the programme (autumn). The Department also offers a number of elective courses at the second-cycle level. If you want to deepen or broaden your knowledge within a specific field, and the field is not covered entirely by the available courses, you may take one or several individual courses.

You can also take courses at other higher education institutions. Exactly which courses may be applied to your degree is outlined in the programme syllabus.

The programme concludes with a degree project corresponding to 30 or 60 higher education credits.

Information about the courses

GUL is a web-based platform with events and virtual rooms for information, communication and collaboration between teachers and students. Here you will find course time schedules, readlinglists, and course syllabus. Log in via the student portal or the GUL´s open pages

Individual study plan

Each student in the Master’s Programme in Conservation is to establish an individual study plan (ISP) in consultation with the programme and specialisation coordinators.

The individual study plan contains information about the student’s time plan, specialisation and choice of courses and is to guide the student through his/her Master’s studies.

Establishment of the individual study plan is examined as part of the introductory course KUA400 Conservation and Sustainable Development.

Progression of study

The programme is normally offered on a full-time basis.

Leave from studies

If you need to take a leave from studies, please contact the study counsellor (you will need to submit a formal application). A leave from studies can normally be approved for a maximum of two semesters.
